Great Bridge High's Avsec commits to play soccer at Salem

Chesapeake, VA-The Salem College soccer program is excited to announce that Rachel Avsec has committed and deposited to attend Salem next fall. Avsec, a central defender, played soccer for Coach Jennifer Hamilton and Coach Kalina Hobbs at Great Bridge High School in Virginia.
The Salem soccer team is coming off an 11-5-2 season, and their third straight trip to the Great South Athletic Conference semifinals in 2011. The program currently has 3 straight 10 win seasons, and they have a 38-15-3 record over that span.
Avsec played 4 years of varsity soccer for Great Bridge, and she was the team captain her junior and senior seasons. She was an all-southeastern district player as a junior, and the Wildcats went to the regional championships after winning their district in 2010. Avsec played club soccer for 10 years, including for the Rush Swoosh and the Old Dominion Soccer Club Fusion for the past 2 years.
She won the Great Bridge Principal's Award and an academic scholar award. Avsec is also a member of Operation Smile, the Anchor Club, and she was the National Honors Society Treasurer at Great Bridge. She is the daughter of Gwen and Michael Avsec.
