Soccer wins 5-0 in first GSAC match of the season against Huntingdon

The Salem College soccer team kicked off their Great South Athletic Conference play with a 5-0 home victory against Huntingdon College. Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) scored on a corner kick by Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) less than three minutes into the game. Salem improves to 6-1 on the season.

stephpassWinston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team kicked off their Great South Athletic Conference play with a 5-0 home victory against Huntingdon College. Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) scored on a corner kick by Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) less than three minutes into the game. Salem improves to 6-1 on the season.

The Spirits would score again midway through the first half when Mackenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) finished a pass by Alexi Saganich (McLeansville, NC). Salem went into the half with a 2-0 lead. The Spirits would score three goals midway through the second half to put the game out of reach. Saganich would score in the 68th minute off of an assist by Kim Wisen (Madison, OH). Erica Edwards (Clayton, NC) scored two minutes later on an unassisted goal. Courtney Sauer (Carthage, NC) finished off the scoring for Salem in the 77th minute on a corner by Wisen.

Salem had a shot advantage of 37-1 in the game, and a 19-1 corner kick advantage. Jazmine Bridgeman (Mill Springs, NC) and Cassy Khouri (Canyon Country, CA) combined in goal for the shutout. 

Salem will play their second Great South match on October 1st when they host Agnes Scott at 3:00.
