Roanoke, VA-The Salem College soccer team began their season with a 3-1 road victory at Hollins University. Tia Bringhurst (Hurricane, UT) got the season off with a bang as she scored just 57 seconds into the season. Salem improves to 1-0, while Hollins drops to 0-1.

Bringhurst drove a shot into the upper left corner with the Spirits first shot of the season. The Spirits controlled the first half, outshooting Hollins 14-5, and with an 8-1 corner kick advantage.

Alexi Saganich (McLeansville, NC) scored early in the second half for Salem off of an assist by Amanda Orsino (Sauquoit, NY) to give Salem a 2-0 advantage. Becca Logan would answer for Hollins, but Bethany Kent (Manassas, VA) finished off Hollins in the 76th minute.

Salem finished with a 9-1 corner kick advantage. Jazmine Bridgeman (Mill Springs, NC) finished with 10 saves for Salem.

The Spirits return to action this weekend when they take on Peace College and Meredith College in the 2010 Meredith Matchup.
