Soccer loses 1-0 to Maryville in hard-fought game

The Salem College soccer team lost to Maryville College 1-0 tonight at home. Jazmine Bridgeman (Mill Springs, NC) had a big night for Salem with 12 saves. Salem falls to 7-2 overall for the season and 2-1 in the Great South.

Jazmineb1Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team lost to Maryville College 1-0 tonight at home. Jazmine Bridgeman (Mill Springs, NC) had a big night for Salem with 12 saves. Salem falls to 7-2 overall for the season and 2-1 in the Great South.

The game went into the break tied at 0-0, before Jessica Peterson scored the games only goal in the 60th minute. The Spirits had two excellent opportunities in between the 50th and 60th minute. Both Tia Bringhurst (Hurricane, UT) and Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) had shots hit towards the corner that Desiree Simmons made excellent saves on. 

Maryville had a 20-12 shot advantage, and a 13-8 shots on goal advantage. Salem held a 6-3 corner kick advantage in the match. 

Salem returns to action this weekend in another very important conference match when they travel to Piedmont College on October 10th at 7:00.
