Soccer earns first round bye with 11-0 win at Wesleyan

Macon, GA-The Salem College soccer team defeated Georgia Wesleyan 11-0 on the road in a Great South match. Salem clinched a second place finish in the Great South with the victory, and they also earned a bye into the semifinals. Salem will play in the second semifinal game hosted by Piedmont on November 5th at 6:45 pm. The Spirits improve to 13-2 overall and to 6-1 in the GSAC.
Tia Bringhurst (Hurricane, UT) got the scoring started for Salem only 58 seconds into the game. Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) would score less than four minutes later on a pass from Bringhurst to give Salem a 2-0 lead. Kim Wisen (Madison, OH) scored on a penalty kick and Amanda Orsino (Sauquoit, NY) scored in the 27th minute. Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) scored the last goal of the first half off of an assist by Megan Lisle (Lawrenceville, GA).
Trakas started the second half scoring in the 51st minute when she scored directly off of a corner kick. Bringhurst would score three minutes later off of a pass by Alexi Saganich (McLeansville, NC), and Saganich scored one minute later. Samantha Hubbard (Sanford, NC) scored on a pass by Celeste Pantuso (Gastonia, NC). Orsino scored again in the 68th minute, and Heather Hawthorne (Benson, AZ) finished off the scoring in the 74th minute.
Jazmine Bridgeman (Mill Spring, NC) and Cassy Khouri (Canyon Country, CA) combined for the shutout. Salem out shot Wesleyan 45-1, and they had an 11-0 corner kick advantage.
Salem returns to action on October 26th when they travel to Ferrum College for a non-conference match at 7:00.
