The Spirits Break Records in Win Over Randolph
September 7, 2007
Winston-Salem, NC- After a quick goal by Randolph College’s Marie Taylor, the Spirits of Salem College tighten down the defense by kicking the offense into high gear. Out shooting Randolph 33-4 for the game, the Spirits rebounded with five straight goals to defeat the Wildcats 5-1. This was the most goals in a game for the Spirits and the most wins in a season since joining the NCAA in 2005.
Amber Bryant (Jonesville, NC) scored her first of two goals just 5 minutes into the game to tie the score at 1-1. Kimberly Wisen (Madison, OH) scored the go-ahead and winning goal just 15 minutes into the game. Megan Harrington (Jacksonville, NC) scored the Spirits third goal of the afternoon followed by Bryant’s second goal. Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC) finished the scoring with a goal five minutes to go in the contest. Tori Collier (Raleigh, NC) assisted in 2 goals while Bryant, Harrington and Courtney Sauer (Cartage, NC) recorded one assist apiece.
“We started out slow and allowed that early goal,” stated Head Soccer Coach Jay Callahan. “After that, I felt that our team took over the game and controlled it the rest of the way. We were able to rest some of the starters in the second half which should help us in our game tomorrow.”
Salem College (2-0-1) returns to action on Saturday against Hollins University (1-0) at 2 pm at Blixt Field.
