Soccer Reloads in Hopes to Build on Last Year's Momentum
August 19, 2008
Winston-Salem, N.C. - A splendid recruiting class has hopes running high for the Salem College Soccer Team, as head coach Jay Callahan announced eight newcomers to the 2008 roster.
The class consists of six members that received all-conference accolades and six team captains, leaving Callahan excited about the potential that this class adds to the team.
"As our program continues to grow and our level of competition increases, we need to continue to bring in talented recruits," Callahan said. "Last year's crop of twelve, first- year players significantly helped our squad do as well as we did. Several of the incoming first-years have a chance to come in and start right away. This class also adds a lot of depth. I suspect that they will help continue the level of excellence we achieved last year, both on and off the field."
Salem won the NCAA Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Atlantic Region Championship last year against Green Mountain College by a 2-0 score. The team finished the season with a school best 15-1-2 record. Seven members of the team were awarded AD3I post-season awards and one was a North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State member.
