Tatum Justice (Jacksonville, NC) was fouled in the box, and Kim Wisen (Madison, OH) scored the penalty kick to tie the game for Salem. Kristen McCartney scored in the 82nd minute to win the match for Averett. Andrea Baldwin (Hudson, NC) had 8 saves for Salem.

"We had three defensive lapses that cost us the game," said Head Coach Jay Callahan. "We played hard throughout the match, but we have to do a much better job of finishing our scoring opportunities. I look forward to hosting Averett in a couple weeks to get a second chance against them."

Salem returns home on Sunday, October 5th as they host Wilson College at 2:00 pm.
