Winchester, VA- The Salem College soccer team suffered a tough loss in overtime today at Shenandoah University. Salem battled hard throughout their second game in two days to force overtime. Salem’s record drops to 2-1 and Shenandoah improves to 2-2.

Shana Sumers scored the sudden death goal in the 95th minute off of an assist by Kierra Nicholson to give Shenandoah the 1-0 win. Shenandoah outshot Salem 14-10. Andrea Baldwin had 10 saves for the Spirits. Brooke Strickler and Kat Terza combined for 8 saves for Shenandoah.

“I was very proud of how hard the team worked today,” said Salem coach Jay Callahan. “One team was going to get a lucky bounce, and unfortunately Shenandoah got that bounce today.”

Salem remains on the road next weekend in the Smart Women Sweat Tournament hosted by Agnes Scott in Decatur, GA. The Spirits will play Meredith on September 13th and Spelman on the 14th.
