Ferguson Wins Great South Soccer Player of the Week

ATLANTA, GA - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the fall
sports week one Players of the Week on Wednesday morning and
student-athletes from Spelman, Covenant and Salem were selected as
winners
through exclusive voting by the league sports information
directors.
Week 1 Women's Soccer Player of the Week - freshman forward Sawyer Ferguson of Salem College
Another first-year dynamo, Ferguson has scored 6 goals
and added an assist in the Spirits first five games of the season. Her
13 points to date have propelled Salem to a 3-2 start to the
season. Ferguson also tallied game-winning goals for the Spirits against
Emory & Henry and William Peace to show a flair for the dramatic
and earn Player of the Week honors.
Week 1 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week - freshman Kamila Nemcova of Spelman College
Nemcova began her collegiate career with a bang, placing first in an
11-team, 72 athlete field. She raced the 5k course at the North Georgia
Tech Invitational in a time of 21:07.56 to garner the first place medal
and GSAC Runner of the Week status.
Week 1 Volleyball Player of the Week - freshman outside hitter Chelsea Van Dyk of Covenant College
Van Dyk has amassed 92 kills, a .389 hitting percentage,
6 block solos and 10 block assists at the outset of her freshman
campaign. She's also averaging 3.68 kills per set as the Scots have
raced to a 5-2 record on the season en route to her first Player of the
Week nod.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week
candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as
selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on
Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each
Wednesday morning.
