Ferguson Wins Second GSAC Soccer Player of the Week Honor

ATLANTA, GA - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the fall sports week three Players of the Week on Wednesday morning and student-athletes from Salem, Spelman, Covenant and Wesleyan were selected as winners through exclusive voting by the league sports information directors.
Week 3
Women's Soccer Co-Players of the Week - freshman forward Sawyer
Ferguson of Salem College and freshman forward Jasmine Molin of
Spelman College
Ferguson
scored 3 goals to help Salem to a 2-0 week. She scored
game-winning
goals in road wins over Ferrum and Agnes Scott to help the Spirits to a
6-2 overall record and 2-0 in the GSAC. Ferguson scored twice against
the Scotties in a come from behind 2-1 victory. She currently leads the
Great South with 21 points on 10 goals (five game-winners) and this is
her second Soccer Player of the Week nod as only a freshman.
Molin was stellar in back-to-back games Saturday and Sunday for Spelman with five goals for the Jaguars. She had her second of the season on Saturday in a 3-0 win over Huntingdon and added four goals on Sunday in a 9-0 rout of Oakwood. Molin tallied 10 points on the week to snag her first GSAC Player of the Week honor.
Week 3 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week - freshman Kamila Nemcova of Spelman College
Nemcova
got her second first place finish of the 2012 season on Saturday at the
Truett-McConnell Invitational. Her 5k time was 21:03 and helped her
team to a fifth place team finish ahead of conference opponent Wesleyan
and lift her to her second GSAC Runner of the Week selection.
Week 3 Volleyball Player of the Week – senior middle hitter Jessica Chittenden of Covenant College
Chittenden
had 20 kills, including 10 in a 3-0 sweep of Piedmont. She added 4
solo blocks, including 3 against Piedmont, and 8 assisted blocks,
including 6 against Piedmont as Covenant remained perfect in league
play. Her prowess on the court earned her the Volleyball Player of the
Week status.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
