Olveda wins and XC Team finishes in Second at St. Andrew's

The Salem College cross country team finished in second in their first meet of the season at the St. Andrew's University Invitational 5K.

xcstandrewsLaurinburg, NC-The Salem College cross country team finished in second in their first meet of the season at the St. Andrew's University Invitational 5K. Natali Olveda (Salinas, CA) dominated the course and the competition as she won the meet with a time of 21:03. Meredith College finished in first overall, and St. Andrew's was third followed by Columbia International.

Stephanie Verdi (High Point, NC) crossed the line in third overall as she edged out two Meredith runners with a time of 21:28. Cristi Magracia (Lemon Grove, CA) earned a spot in the top ten with a finish in 22:33. Audrey Wierda (Greenville, MI), running in her first meet ever, finished in fourth for the Spirits and 18th overall. She was followed by Tali Schroeder (Lexington, VA), who rounded out the top five for Salem with a 19th place finish in 23:19.

The Spirits return to action next week at the Catawba Invitational 5K on the 6th of September.
