Basketball rolls past Hollins for first win

The Salem College basketball team rolled past Hollins University, 75-67, to pick up their first win of the young season. Salem claimed third-place in the Jackie Ammons Tournament hosted by William Peace with the win. For the second straight game, Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) led the Spirits with 12 points. Salem improves to 1-1 this season, while Hollins drops to 0-2.

Raleigh, NC-The Salem College basketball team rolled past Hollins University, 75-67, to pick up their first win of the young season. Salem claimed third-place in the Jackie Ammons Tournament hosted by William Peace with the win. For the second straight game, Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) led the Spirits with 12 points. She had only the second triple-double in Salem history adding 11 steals and 11 rebounds. Salem improves to 1-1 this season, while Hollins drops to 0-2.

The Spirits led 39-34 at the break and hung on to the lead throughout the second half. They were clutch from the free-throw line all game, hitting 23 of 31 attempts. Salem was also strong on the glass with 60 rebounds, and they converted 20 steals.

Shaniqua Collins (Hoffman, NC) had 11 points with 5 rebounds. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) also had a strong night with 11 points and 5 rebounds.

The Spirits return to the road on Tuesday, when they travel to take on Roanoke College in their last game before Thanksgiving.
