Basketball eases to win at Meredith

The Salem College basketball team ended a two-game losing streak with a convincing win at Meredith, 52-40. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) paved the way for the victory with 17 points and 7 rebounds. The Spirits improve to 5-3 this season, and Meredith fall to 1-4.

shabazzreboundRaleigh, NC-The Salem College basketball team ended a 2 game losing streak with a convincing win at Meredith, 52-40. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) paved the way for the victory with 17 points and 7 rebounds. The Spirits improve to 5-3 this season and Meredith fall to 1-4.

After falling behind early 9-2, the Spirits went on a 14-1 run. The game went back and forth for the rest of the 1st half, and Meredith went into the break with a 28-22 lead. The 2nd half was controlled completely by the Spirits. Salem outscored Meredith 30-12 in the 2nd half.

Salem held Meredith to 22.3% from the field in the game. They out-rebounded the Avenging Angels 45-40, and forced 29 turnovers. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) had another strong night with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 4 steals and 4 blocks.  Brandi Wilkey (Atlanta, GA) added 8 points and 6 assists for the Spirits.

Salem returns to action on Wednesday for their last game before the holiday break. They will host Averett at 7:00.
