Basketball cruises to win at Roanoke

Salem, VA-The Salem College basketball team opened up an early lead and never looked back in route to a 57-47 non-conference win at Roanoke College. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) had a monster night with a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds. Salem improves to 1-2 overall, while Roanoke falls to 1-3.

Salem, VA-The Salem College basketball team opened up an early lead and never looked back in route to a 57-47 non-conference win at Roanoke College. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) had a monster night with a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds. Salem improves to 2-1 overall, while Roanoke falls to 1-3.

The Spirits trailed 8-4 before they went on a 17-1 run to take a 21-9 lead midway through the first-half. They carried that lead into the break with a 34-26 advantage.

In the 2nd half, Salem jumped up by as many as 15 points, and the closest Roanoke got was within 6 with 1:32 left. The Spirits out-rebounded the Maroons 57-48. The Spirits also had 13 steals in the game.

Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) had another strong night with 18 points and 6 rebounds. She also led the Spirits with 4 steals and 3 assists. Paxton Gwin led the Maroons with 12 points.

The Spirits play their first home game on the 28th of November, when they host Warren Wilson at 7:00.
