Basketball loses on road at Guilford 80-65

he Salem College basketball team lost on the road in a non-conference game to Guilford 80-65. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) led the Spirits with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Salem drops to 1-3 with the loss, and the Quakers improve to 4-2.

Greensboro, NC-The Salem College basketball team lost on the road in a non-conference game to Guilford 80-65. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) led the Spirits with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Salem drops to 1-3 with the loss, and the Quakers improve to 4-2.

Guilford jumped out to a quick 17-4 lead in the first 5 minutes of play. The Spirits settled down and cut the lead to 5 with 7 minutes left in the first half. The Quakers broke the game open at the end of the first half and went into the break with a 45-29 advantage.

The Quakers extended their lead to 22 at the start of the second half, before Salem clawed back into the game to cut the lead to 10 twice late in the game.

Guilford was able to hold on for the 15 point victory. Amber Miller (Mebane, NC) finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds for Salem. Guilford was led by Morgan King with 17 points.

Salem returns to action with 2 Great South home games this weekend. They will battle Covenant on Friday night at 7:00, and LaGrange on Sunday at 2:00.
