Basketball drops first game of 2012 at Huntingdon

Montgomery, AL-The Salem College basketball team fell in a Great South game today at Huntingdon, 60-49. Amber Miller (Mebane, NC) led the Spirits with 13 rebounds. Salem drops to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the Great South, and Huntingdon improves to 7-4 and 2-0 in conference.
Salem's rust from the winter break showed in the first 5 minutes as they fell behind 16-0. They were able to cut the lead to 4 by halftime, and the two teams went into the break with a 31-27 Huntingdon advantage.
The Hawks started quick in the second half with a 26-6 run to take a 24 point lead. Salem ended the game with a 13-1 run, but it was not enough.
Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) led Salem with 9 points. Karoline Summerville (Charlotte, NC) added 8 points. LaTerial Williams had a game-high 16 points to lead the Hawks.
Salem returns home on January 10th for a huge Great South game against Agnes Scott at 7:00.
