Basketball drops conference home game to Agnes Scott

The Salem College basketball team had a strong comeback bid against Agnes Scott, but fell in the end 53-45 to Agnes Scott in a Great South game. Sarah Smith (Hays, NC) and Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) each had 10 points for the Spirits. Salem falls to 0-4 in the Great South and 1-8 overall, while the Scotties improve to 2-2 and 3-8 overall.

Sarah Smith (Hays, NC) and Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) each had 10 points for the Spirits. Salem falls to 0-4 in the Great South and 1-8 overall, while the Scotties improve to 2-2 and 3-8 overall.

The first half went back and forth for the first 15 minutes. Agnes Scott was able to pull away towards the end of the half and opened up a 30-24 halftime advantage.

The second half started slow without a point from either team in the first 4 minutes. Salem cut into the lead and tied the game with 10 minutes to go. The 2 teams went back and forth until the final few minutes, when the Scotties were able to break the lead open.

Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) had a strong night for Salem with 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 assists. Genefine Sapateh led Agnes Scott with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Spirits host two important Great South games this weekend against Spelman on Saturday at 2:00, and league leading Piedmont on Sunday at 2:00.
