shamazfoulshotLaGrange, GA -- The Great South Athletic Conference has named Salem forward Shamaz Denerson the Player of the Week in women's basketball for the week ending January 23.  The honor is the second for Denerson in 2010-11 and the third of the season for the Spirits basketball program.

In three appearances for the North Carolina GSAC member, Denerson scored 63 total points and collected 44 total rebounds to average 21 ppg and 14.6 rpg.  Denerson posted a pair of double-double performances while coming up just a single board shy of a third as the sophomore leads the GSAC in offensive rebounding.

The post player twice scored over 20 points in a game this past week including a season high 25 points in an overtime battle with Bennett College.  In Salem's win over Wesleyan College, Denerson came close to posting the conference's first 20-20 game of the season scoring 21 points while pulling down 19 boards.
