Salem's Shamaz Denerson Named GSAC Women's Basketball Player Of The Week

LaGrange, GA -- The Great South Athletic Conference has named Shamaz Denerson of Salem College its Player of the Week in women's basketball for the week ending December 12. Denerson claims the honor for the first time this season while racking up the second for the Salem Spirits in 2010-11.

shamazfoulshotLaGrange, GA -- The Great South Athletic Conference has named Shamaz Denerson of Salem College its Player of the Week in women's basketball for the week ending December 12.  Denerson claims the honor for the first time this season while racking up the second for the Salem Spirits in 2010-11. 

The sophomore from Atlanta, GA scored a season high 19 points in an overtime victory over Peace College on Wednesday, December 8.  In the 73-68 OT win, Denerson also pulled down nine rebounds while collecting a steal to help the Spirits to their second win of the season.

On the year, Shamaz is averaging 11.6 points, 1.4 steals, one block, and close to two assists in just under 30 minutes per game.  The post player is amongst the league's best as well in a pair of categories ranking sixth in the GSAC in points per game and eleventh in total rebounding per game.
