Rector breaks own single-game scoring record in loss

The Salem College basketball team suffered an overtime loss at home to Bennett College, 89-81. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) broke her own single-game scoring record with 35 points in the game, along with two other single-game records. Salem falls to 4-9 overall, and Bennett improves to 5-7.

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team suffered an overtime loss at home to Bennett College, 89-81. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) broke her own single-game scoring record with 35 points in the game, along with two other single-game records. Salem falls to 4-9 overall, and Bennett improves to 5-7.

Rector broke her own Salem College single-game scoring record (31 points), which she previously set against Warren Wilson in 2008. She also broke Salem's record of free-throws made with 20, and of free-throws attempted with 25. She also had 6 rebounds and 2 steals in the game.

Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) had an outstanding game with 25 points, 16 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Amber Miller (Mebane, NC) also finished the game with a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds to go along with 6 assists. Salem played the end of regulation and overtime with only four players after two fouled out of the game. Tianna Bennett led Bennett College with 34 points.

Salem returns to action on Saturday when they host Georgia Wesleyan in a conference game at 2:00 pm.
