Kelsey Rector becomes first Salem basketball player with 1,000 career points

Winston-Salem, NC-Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) became the first Salem College basketball player to score 1,000 career points. The senior scored a three-pointer with 10:49 left in the first-half against Piedmont Baptist College to eclipse the 1,000 point mark. The Spirits won the game 87-66, and Rector finished with 12 points and 9 assists.
Rector, a guard, led the Spirits in scoring for the past three seasons. She scored 193 points as a first-year, 257 points as a sophomore, and 297 points last year as a junior. She holds the Salem records for career points, points in a single game (35), as well as several other records.
She currently is averaging 16.5 points in 2010-2011, which leads the team. Rector is also averaging 3.1 rebounds per game and 1.9 steals per game.
