Basketball earns first win of the season against Spelman

The Salem College basketball team earned their first win of the season in a 60-51 come from behind thriller against Spelman College. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) led the Spirits with 23 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in the game. Salem improves to 1-3 with the win, and to 1-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference.

Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) led the Spirits with 23 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in the game. Salem improves to 1-3 with the win, and to 1-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference.

Spelman controlled much of the first half and went into the break with a 30-23 advantage. Spelman held a 37-29 advantage with 14:34 remaining before Salem went on a 20-5 run over the next 9:06 to take control of the game.

Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) had a pivotal second half and finished the game with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Racheal Salmons (Yadkinville, NC) added 6 points and 7 rebounds for the Spirits, and Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) added 4 rebounds and 2 steals.

Amanda Alexander led Spelman with 14 points. Spelman falls to 0-2 with the loss.

Salem returns to action on December 4th when they travel to Huntingdon College for another Great South game.
