Basketball defeats Peace in overtime thriller

The Salem College basketball team defeated Peace College 73-68 in an overtime thriller tonight at Salem Gym. This was the first home victory for Salem against Peace in three years. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) led the Spirits with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Salem improves to 2-5 overall on the season, and Peace falls to 4-4.

This was the first home victory for Salem against Peace in three years. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) led the Spirits with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Salem improves to 2-5 overall on the season, and Peace falls to 4-4.

The game was close throughout with the two teams going into halftime tied at 34. Peace opened up a 10 point lead in the second half, but the Spirits closed the gap. Each team had a shot to win it at the end of regulation, but could not convert. The Spirits took control in overtime and outscored Peace 14-9.

Jojo Hall (Concord, NC) finished with 18 points and 3 steals. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) scored 16 points and added 5 assists.

Salem will take a break through the holidays before they return to action on January 6th, when they host Covenant.
