The Salem College basketball team lost in the first round of the Jackie Ammons Tournament hosted by Peace College against Maine Maritime, 77-42. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) led the Spirits with 16 points. Salem drops to 0-2 on the season.

The Salem College basketball team earned their first win of the season in a 60-51 come from behind thriller against Spelman College. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) led the Spirits with 23 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in the game. Salem improves to 1-3 with the win, and to 1-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference.
GSAC Names Kelsey Rector Player Of The Week For Women's Basketball
The Great South Athletic Conference office has announced its Player of the Week honoree in women's basketball for the week ending November 21 with Kelsey Rector of Salem College taking home the award.
Basketball drops two away conference games this weekend
The Salem College basketball team lost two Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) away games this weekend. The Spirits fell to Huntingdon in Alabama 67-64. They lost this afternoon to LaGrange 100-70. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) led Salem with 17 points in the game today. Salem falls to 1-5 on the season and to 1-2 in the GSAC.
Basketball defeats Peace in overtime thriller
The Salem College basketball team defeated Peace College 73-68 in an overtime thriller tonight at Salem Gym. This was the first home victory for Salem against Peace in three years. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) led the Spirits with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Salem improves to 2-5 overall on the season, and Peace falls to 4-4.
Salem's Shamaz Denerson Named GSAC Women's Basketball Player Of The Week
LaGrange, GA -- The Great South Athletic Conference has named Shamaz Denerson of Salem College its Player of the Week in women's basketball for the week ending December 12. Denerson claims the honor for the first time this season while racking up the second for the Salem Spirits in 2010-11.
Featured Athlete of the Month-Jojo Hall (Basketball)
Jojo scored 52 points in three games in December for an average of 17.3 points per game. She led Salem to a 1-2 record in December and an exciting comeback win at home against Peace. She also added 1.3 assists per game, 2 steals per game, and she average 76% from the foul line in December.
Basketball drops first 2011 game against Covenant College
In front of a packed house, the Salem College basketball team dropped a home game to Covenant College, 65-57. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) led the Spirits with 21 points on the night. Salem drops to 2-6 with the loss, and Covenant improves to 1-6.
Basketball picks up big GSAC win against Huntingdon
The Salem College basketball team was hitting from all facets of the game in a 70-57 Great South win against Huntingdon. Jojo Hall (Concord, NC) had a monster game with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Salem improves to 3-6 overall and to 2-2 in GSAC play, while Huntingdon drops to 4-5 overall.

The Salem College basketball team was not able to withstand the pressure from Maryville College in a 105-47 home loss. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) led Salem with 15 points. Salem falls to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the GSAC, while Maryville improves to 8-4 overall.

The Salem College basketball team split a pair of Great South Athletic Conference games this weekend in Georgia. The Spirits defeated Georgia Wesleyan 70-48 on Saturday, and fell 69-60 at Piedmont today. Salem improves to 4-8 overall and to 3-4 in the GSAC.
Rector breaks own single-game scoring record in loss
The Salem College basketball team suffered an overtime loss at home to Bennett College, 89-81. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) broke her own single-game scoring record with 35 points in the game, along with two other single-game records. Salem falls to 4-9 overall, and Bennett improves to 5-7.

The Salem College basketball team evened their Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) record with a 60-47 win against Georgia Wesleyan College. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) had a very strong afternoon with 21 points and 19 rebounds. Shamaz Denerson named GSAC Women's Basketball Player Of The Week for 2nd time
The Great South Athletic Conference has named Salem forward Shamaz Denerson the Player of the Week in women's basketball for the week ending January 23. The honor is the second for Denerson in 2010-11 and the third of the season for the Spirits basketball program.
Salem cruises to home win against Piedmont Baptist
The Salem College basketball team cruised to an easy 87-66 win against crosstown rival Piedmont Baptist College. Amber Miller (Mebane, NC) had a career night with 25 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals. Salem improves to 6-10 overall, while Piedmont Baptist drops to 8-8.
Kelsey Rector becomes first Salem basketball player with 1,000 career points
Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) became the first Salem College basketball player to score 1,000 career points. The senior scored a three-pointer with 10:49 left in the first-half against Piedmont Baptist College to eclipse the 1,000 point mark. The Spirits won the game 87-66, and Rector finished with 12 points and 9 assists.

The Salem College basketball team lost in an important road Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) game to Spelman, 74-54. The two teams are now tied for the sixth and final playoff in the conference with one game left to play for each team. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) had another standout performance with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Salem falls to 6-16 overall and 4-9 in the GSAC, and Spelman improves to 7-13 overall and 4-9 in the conference.

The Salem College basketball team could not hang on in a close Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) game today at Agnes Scott. The Spirits led by 2 with 5 minutes remaining before Agnes Scott pulled away for a 65-59 advantage. Salem falls to 6-17 overall and they finish GSAC regular season play with a 4-10 conference record. They will have to wait to see who wins the Spelman vs. Huntingdon game to see if they qualify for the 6th and final playoff spot.
Miller records the first ever triple-double in Salem basketball history
The Salem College basketball team traveled down the road to defeat Piedmont Baptist College, 82-58. Amber Miller (Mebane, NC) recorded the first ever triple-double in the history of the Salem program. She had 15 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. Salem improves to 7-17 on the season.
Rector scores 20 in last game for Spirits in loss against SVU
The Salem College basketball team went down fighting in their last game of the season in a loss to Southern Virginia University, 75-69. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC), playing in her last game for Salem, scored 20 points and had 4 steals. Salem ends the season with a 7-18 record, while Southern Virginia improved to 12-14.
Shamaz Denerson named to GSAC All-Conference Team
The Great South Athletic Conference announced its 2010-11 women’s basketball All-Conference awards earlier today with Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) representing Salem on the All-Conference team. She averaged 15.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season. Jojo Hall was also selected to the GSAC All-Academic Team. Sarah Wright (Siler City, NC) represented Salem on the GSAC Sportsmanship Team.
Denerson named to NCCSIA All-State Second Team for basketball
Eleven players representing ten different North Carolina Colleges and Universities have been named to the 2010-11 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Teams. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) of Salem College was selected to the College Division All-State Second Team.
Hopewell High's Summerville commits to play basketball at Salem
The Salem College basketball program is excited to announce that Karoline Summerville has committed to attend Salem this fall. Summerville played four years for I-Meck 4A Hopewell High School in Huntersville, NC.
Oberlin High's Lollis commits to play basketball at Salem
The Salem College basketball program is pleased to announce that Kristal Lollis has committed to attend Salem this fall. Lollis played at Oberlin High School in Oberlin, Louisiana. She averaged 12 points, five steals and four assists per game and was a senior leader on her team. Lollis was honored as a Second Team All-District Player.
Chapman High's Henderson commits to play basketball at Salem
The Salem College basketball program is happy to announce that Zy Henderson from Chapman High School in Inman, South Carolina has committed to attend Salem this fall. In her junior and senior seasons, Zy was selected to the all-region team, received the team's Defensive Player Award and was among top area leaders in steals and assists.
