Basketball suffers first loss of the season in Peace Invitational Championship game

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team suffered their first loss of the season against Salisbury University, 61-42. The Spirits met Salisbury in the Peace College Invitational Championship game after Salem defeated Bennett College last night. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) led the team with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Sarah Smith (Hays, NC) joined Denerson on the Peace Invitational All-Tournament team. Salem falls to 2-1 with the loss, and Salisbury improved to 2-0.
The Spirits started out strong, opening up an 11-6 lead in the first 9:30. Salem would hold onto the lead for the rest of the half, and led 25-21 at the break. Denerson led the team with 11 points at half. Salisbury would go on a 30-10 run in the final 12 minutes of the game to take the win.
Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC) had nine points for Salem. Bridget Commodore (Charleston, SC) finished with 6 rebounds for the Spirits. Glen Charlton and Kylie Hall each had 13 points for Salisbury.
Salem returns to action this Tuesday, November 24th when they host Methodist University at 7:00.
