Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team is set to kickoff their 2009-2010 season with their first ever Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) game this Sunday, November 15th at 2:00. The Spirits will host Agnes Scott College in their first of sixteen GSAC games.

Salem returns three of their top four scorers from last season, their top rebounder, and their two-time team captain. The team, led by fourth-year coach Jim Jackson, went 8-17 last season.

Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) will lead the returning group. Rector was selected to the NCAA Division III Association of Independents Honorable Mention team for each of the past two seasons. She was second on the team with 9.8 points per game last season.

Rector will be joined in the backcourt by Jessi Watts (Hillsville, VA), who led the team with 10.3 points per game last season. Sarah Smith (Hays, NC) should lead the frontcourt this year, she averaged 9.7 points and 6.7 rebounds in her first season. The team will get leadership from senior Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC), who is a two-time captain.

Coach Jackson added six first-years to the team that should make an immediate impact and see a lot of time on the court. There is also one transfer on the squad.
