Demorest, GA-The Salem College basketball team lost 84-64 on the road at Piedmont College in a Great South game. The Spirits played their second game in as many days on the road. They had five players score in double figures led by 13 points from Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC). Salem falls to 3-5 with the loss, and Piedmont improves to 3-8.

The Spirits trailed 38-25 at the break. They struggled from behind the three-point line (0-12), but shot well from the free-throw line (24-35). Piedmont held a 60-44 rebound advantage, and Salem forced Piedmont to turn the ball over 15 times to just 13 turnovers by the Spirits.

Sarah Smith (Hays, NC) led the team with 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks. Racheal Salmons (Yadkinville, NC) scored 12 points and had 7 rebounds, and Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) contributed 11 points. Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC) and Lauren Redman (Lenoir, NC) each scored 10 points. Michaux also led the team with 3 steals.

Salem travels down the road to take on Piedmont Baptist College this Friday at 7:00.
