Basketball falls in last GSAC regular season game of the year

Montgomery, AL-The Salem College basketball team lost on the road at Huntingdon College, 76-66. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) and Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) each scored 17 points for the Spirits. Salem falls to 9-12 overall and Huntingdon improves to 5-18 overall.
Salem finished their Great South regular season schedule with the loss. They will travel to either Piedmont College or Spelman College as the number five or six seed next week in the quarterfinals. The Spirits finish their first season in the GSAC with a 5-9 conference record.
The game went back and forth in the first half with Salem holding a 32-31 advantage at the break. The Spirits would continue to hold the lead at 39-36 with 15:23 remaining in the game. Huntingdon went on a 20-7 run over the next 7 minutes. Salem cut Huntingdon's lead to 62-58 with 4:20 remaining, and could not get any closer.
Rector and Denerson also each had 9 rebounds for Salem. Sarah Smith (Hays, NC) led the Spirits with 10 rebounds. Ashton Salter had a game-high 19 points for Huntingdon.
Salem concludes its regular season play in a non-conference game at Peace on the 21st.
