Maryville, TN-The Salem College basketball team lost their first game of 2010 at Maryville College, 105-47. Sarah Wright (Siler City, NC) led the Spirits with 10 points and 2 rebounds. Salem drops to 3-4 overall with the loss, and Maryville improves to 8-4. Salem is now 2-2 in the GSAC.

The game was close for the first 7:30 with Maryville only holding a 14-12 advantage. The Scots would go on a 39-11 run to close out the first half. Maryville started the second-half on fire with a 20-4 run. Salem struggled from the field in the game, shooting 26% compared to 50.6% from Maryville.

Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) had 6 points and 9 rebounds for the Spirits. Racheal Salmons (Yadkinville, NC) contributed 8 points for Salem. Maryville had six different players score double-digit points.

Salem returns to action tomorrow when they try to split the season series at Piedmont College in a GSAC game.
