Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team took control in the second half to defeat North Carolina Wesleyan College, 84-68. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) led the Spirits with 16 points and 9 rebounds in the non-conference game. Salem improves to 9-9 with the win, and Wesleyan falls to 0-17.

The Spirits trailed 18-13 with 8:56 remaining in the first half, before they went on a 23-9 run to close out the half. Denerson led the Spirits with 9 points in the half.

The lead jumped up to 11 with 19:08 remaining, and the Spirits held a double-digit advantage for the rest of the half. Salem would lead by as many as 21 points in the second half. The Spirits field goal percentage improved from 24% in the first half to 48% in the second half. 

Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC) had a strong night with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Lauren Redman (Lenoir, NC) and Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) each had 15 points for Salem. Redman added 7 rebounds, and Rector recorded 2 steals. Samantha Urquhart led Wesleyan with 19 points.

Salem hosts their last regular season home game this Sunday at 2:00 against LaGrange.
