Winston-Salem, NC- With a depleted roster of six players, the SalemCollege basketball team played their gutsiest game of the season in a loss to Emory & Henry College, 83-74. The Spirits had four players score double-digit points. Salem fell to 5-17 with the loss, while Emory & Henry improved to 6-12.

Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) led the way with 22 points for Salem, and Jessi Watts (Hillsville, VA) added 21 points. Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC) finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Salem led in the first-half by as many as 11 points, 19-8. The Spirits went into the locker room at halftime with a 46-41 advantage. Watts had 13 points at half to lead the Spirits. Destiny Harris (Harrisburg, NC) added 12 points for Salem.

The game was tied at 56 with 11:07 to play, before tired legs and foul trouble wore down the Spirits. The Wasps went on a 21-10 run over the next 8:59, and were able to hold off Salem in the final two minutes.

Rector led Salem with 5 assists and 4 steals. Stephanee Thibodeaux (Jacksonville, NC) brought down 8 rebounds for the Spirits. Khadija Layne (Dorcester, MA) came off the bench to give the Spirits valuable minutes and 2 points. Alex Lyons led the Wasps with 21 points.

Salem will host BennettCollege on February 6^th at 7:00.
