Winston-Salem, NC-A strong second half surge by Southern Virginia proved to be too much for the Salem College basketball team on Saturday. Southern Virginia won the game, 60-34, and improved to 11-7, while Salem dropped to 5-15. The Spirits were led by Destiny Harris (Concord, NC) and Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) with seven points each. 

The game was tied, 17-17, with 5:24 to go in the first half. Southern Virginia went on a 9-0 run to close out the half with a 26-17 lead. Rector had 5 points at halftime for Salem.

Southern Virginia went on a 19-0 run starting at 19:36 remaining in the second half to take a 43-19 lead with 13:49 remaining. The Spirits were never able to get back within 20 points in the game. Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC) led the Spirits with 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Tricia Dixon led Southern Virginia with 18 points. Kezia Ford also had a strong night for SVU with 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Salem will travel to Raleigh to play Peace College on January 29th at 7:00. Peace defeated Salem on December 3rd, 67-60.
