Basketball picks up first win of the season

Raleigh, NC- The Salem College basketball team rolled to their first win of the season against Wesleyan College of Georgia, 75-54. Salem sprinted out to a 31-7 lead in the first 12:46, and never looked back. Jessi Watts (Hillsville, VA) had a double-double with a game- high 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Spirits. The victory gave the Spirits third-place in the Jackie Ammons Tournament hosted by Peace. Watts was selected to the All-Tournament team. Salem improves to 1-4, while Wesleyan drops to 1-2.
Salem led the game 45-25 at halftime. Courtney Sauer (Carthage, NC) scored 11 points for Salem, and Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC) added 14. Wesleyan would cut the lead to 12 with 12:45 left, but that was the closest they would get. Watts scored in double-digits for the fourth straight game. Wesleyan was led in scoring by Bre' Solmone with 11 points.
Salem will host Meredith College on November 25th at 7:00.
