Basketball loses first road game at Meredith

Raleigh, NC- The Salem College basketball team lost their first road game of the season at Meredith, 73-66. The Spirits had a six point lead at halftime and were up by as much as 13 in the second half, but they were unable to hold off the Avenging Angels. Joanne Hall (Concord, NC) led the way for the Spirits with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Salem falls to 0-3 on the season, and Meredith improves to 3-0.
Salem led the game 35-29 at half, and expanded the lead to 42-29 with 17:26 left. Meredith went on a 11-0 run over the next three minutes to cut the lead to two. Salem was able to push the lead back to seven with 8:21 left, but Meredith came back and took the lead for good with 6:53 left. Jessi Watts (Hillsville, VA) had a strong game for Salem with 11 points and 3 assists. Brittany Cornelius (Meredith) had a game-high 33 points.
Salem returns to action this weekend at the Peace Tournament as they take on Wittenburg on Friday night. Salem hosts Meredith on November 25th at 7:00.
