Basketball falls on the road to Spelman

Decatur, GA- The Salem College basketball team lost at Spelman, 89-72, in the "Smart Women Sweat Tournament." Sarah Smith (Hays, NC) had her second double-double in a row, with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Joanne Hall (Concord, NC) also poured in 21 points for the Spirits. Salem falls to 4-8 with the loss, and Spelman improves to 2-3.
Salem started out fast in the game as Jessi Watts (Hillsville, VA) scored the first 8 points. Watts finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds in the game. Salem would trail by only four at the half, 41-37. The game would be as close as 2 points with eight minutes remaining, before Spelman went on a run to finish off the Spirits. Shanda Kennedy led Spelman with 25 points. Salem finished 1-1 in the tournament, which was hosted by Agnes Scott.
Salem returns home to take on Greensboro College on December 9th at 7:00. There will be a special game put on at halftime of that game.
