Basketball drops road game to Montreat

Black Mountain, NC- The Salem College basketball team lost on the road to Montreat College, 85-61. Salem had three players in double-digits, but they were not able to fight back after a slow start. Michala Michaux (Morganton, NC) led the Spirits with 20 points, 2 steals, and 7 rebounds. Salem falls to 5-14 with the loss.
Montreat ran out to a 20 point halftime lead, 44-24. The main difference in the game was that the Cavaliers shot 53% from the field, while the Spirits only shot 27%. Jessi Watts (Hillsville, VA) finished with 14 points for the Spirits. Courtney Sauer (Carthage, NC) had 10 points and 4 assists. Kim Staley led Montreat with 14 points.
Salem returns to the court on January 24th when they host Southern Virginia at 2:00.
