Winston-Salem, NC- The Salem College basketball team lost a close game to Averett University at home tonight, 73-64. Salem had four players in double digits led by Courtney Sauer (Carthage, NC), who had 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Joanne Hall (Concord, NC) had a double-double for the Spirits with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Salem falls to 0-2 on the season, while Averett improves to 2-0.

Salem trailed at halftime 45-34, and outscored Averett by two in the second half. The Spirits were able to cut the score to 69-64 with 1:04 left, but Averett scored the final four points to seal the win. Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC) had 12 points for Salem, and Jessi Watts (Hillsville, VA) had 10 points. Taylor Poirier (Averett) was the leading scorer in the game with 23 points.

Salem returns to action on Wednesday, November 19th as they travel to Meredith at 7:00.
