Winston-Salem, NC- The Salem College basketball team fought back from a nine point deficit with 6:54 left in the game to defeat Meredith, 66-56. Salem lost at Meredith last week, but showed a lot of determination to go on a 23-4 run to end the game. Sarah Smith (Hays, NC) led the team with 19 points on 5-7 from the field. Jessi Watts (Hillsville, VA) scored double-digits for the fifth straight game with 12 points. Salem improves to 2-4, while Meredith drops to 3-3.

Salem trailed at half 29-27, and would fall as far behind as 11 points with 12:56 remaining in the game. Meredith held a nine point advantage, 52-43, with 6:54 left. Salem went on an 18-2 run over the next 5:04, and held on to win. Joanne Hall (Concord, NC) had a strong night with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Destiny Harris (Harrisburg, NC) gave Salem a spark off of the bench with 7 points. Kristin Stewart led Meredith in scoring with 16 points.

Salem returns to action this weekend at the Methodist Tournament in Fayetteville, NC.
