Raleigh, NC- Salem College battled Peace College in the championship game of the Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The Spirits offense sputtered early as Peace College jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Kelsey Rector (FY, Elkin, NC) hit a free throw at the 13:24 mark. Salem battled back to take a 14-9 lead as Alex Ervin (So, Morganton, NC) scored six quick points. Peace College then finished the first half with a 16-5 run to lead at halftime 27-19.

The Peace Pacers (2-0) started the second half with a fury as they quickly built a 17 point lead on the Spirits after just five minutes, 40-23. Salem was able to cut the lead to seven with 4:35 left, but Peace hung on to win the championship game 64-55.

The Spirits (1-1) were led by Kelsey Rector with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Alex Ervin scored 12 points while Michala Michaux (So, Morganton, NC) scored 7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Salem College shot only 29% for the game, including 0-8 from the 3-point line.

Salem College earned the Runner-Up Trophy for the tournament while Kelsey Rector and Casey Jones (So, Winston-Salem, NC) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Salem College will return to action on Monday night as they host Meredith College at 7 pm at the Spirit Coliseum.
