Kansas City, MO – The Association of Division III Independents has announced that Shakila Springs of Salem College has been awarded Second Team All-Association Honors for the 2006-2007 women’s basketball season. This prestigious post-season award is voted on by the 25 institutions that are members of the Association.

Springs, a freshman from Glenn High School, help lead the Spirits to a record-breaking 16 wins this season. Springs averaged 12.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Shakila broke the school single-game scoring record when she poured in 27 points against Meredith College. Against Greensboro College, Springs grabbed 23 rebounds to prove her dominance in the middle.

With Springs as the starting center, Salem College’s Women’s Basketball Team finished the season by winning the Association of Division III Independents Atlantic Region Tournament Championship which included victories over Finlandia University of Michigan and the University of Dallas.
