February 23- The University of Dallas and Finlandia University played tonight in the second game of the Association of Division III Independents Atlantic Region Women’s Championship. With only 54 seconds to go in the game, Finlandia had built an eight point lead and seemed to be on their way to victory. The University of Dallas had other ideas, however, as Shanie Cardinal helped lead the comeback with two 3-pointers in just 6 seconds. The University of Dallas advanced to Saturday’s championship game with a 71-70 victory in an exciting finish.

The University of Dallas was led by Shanie Cardinal (22 points) followed by Kelly Robertson (16 points), Ana Castillo (14 points, 14 rebounds) and Kristy Malone (11 points).

Finlandia University (MI) was led by Kristina Nikkonen (19 points) and teammates Bridgitte LaPointe and Ally Tincknell each with 16 points. Kathryn Holsworth, a 5’1” guard, led the Lions in rebounding with 8.

On Saturday at 1 pm, The University of Dallas will play Salem College in the championship game. Admission is free and t-shirts/concessions are on sale.
