Winston-Salem, NC-This
past week the Salem College basketball team spent the afternoon volunteering
with local middle and high school students at Main Street Academy. Main Street
Academy seeks to provide opportunities for their students to experience academic
success while providing guidance on making better choices behaviorally in an
environment that is nurturing and conducive to learning in the 21st century.
The Spirits had a phenomenal time as they engaged with the Jaguars and attended the Academy's monthly award ceremony to celebrate the classroom achievements of over forty students.
Salem College Head Basketball Coach Anita Howard said, “This was a very rewarding experience for our young ladies to be a part of in supporting these students at Main Street during their award ceremony. It’s refreshing for me to see them encouraging others to be better citizens on and off the court.”
After the celebration the Salem Spirits headed down to the Academy gym to play in a friendly basketball game with the Academy team while administrators and fans from the institution cheered on.
