Basketball kicks off season with a blast at Midnight Madness
October 16, 2012
Winston-Salem, NC-The Anita Howard era of Salem College basketball kicked off with a blast last night in the Salem Gym at Midnight Madness. Following the event, the 2012-2013 Spirits kicked off their season with their 1st practice under Coach Howard.
Midnight Madness began with a first-year versus sophomore and junior versus senior basketball game. Each team had faculty and staff representatives, and the first-year and senior teams came out on top.
Following the games, there was a dance competition and a chicken-wing eating competition. Two step teams from Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) performed, followed by Salem's very own Ghostryders.
WSSU's Red Sea drum-line performed for the packed gym and then the basketball players were introduced. The evening was capped off with an inter-squad scrimmage. The Salem College Student Government Association and Student-Athlete Advisory Council hosted a couple special competitions during the event. Lady C. from the radio station 102 JAMZ was the emcee for the night.
The Spirits begin their competition on November 16th at the Jackie Ammons Tournament hosted by William Peace.
