Basketball hangs tough with Wingate

Wingate, NC-The Salem College basketball team hung tough with NCAA Division II
Wingate University in their first game of 2013. The Spirits lost 77-65 in the non-conference game. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL), led Salem with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Salem falls to 6-4 on the season, while Wingate improves to 6-5.
The Spirits stayed close the entire first half and they went into the break down 37-35. Wingate started the second half on a 12-2 run to take a 49-37 advantage. The Spirits were able to cut the lead down to 75-65 with 37 seconds left in the game.
Salem was out rebounded 38-25 and Wingate held a 12-8 steal advantage. Bria Patterson (Winterhaven, FL) finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds, while Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) added 10 points for the Spirits.
Salem returns to action at home on Saturday when they host Huntingdon in their first Great South match of the season at 2:00.
