Winston-Salem, NC-Members of the Salem College Basketball team
received a huge energy boost from renowned
motivational
speaker, educator, author, activist and minister, Eric Thomas this
past Tuesday on September 18, 2012. Thanks
to Salem College Asst. Basketball Coach/Asst. Vice Chancellor of Student
Affairs at Winston Salem State University, Theo Howard, the Lady Spirits were
guest to host institution Winston-Salem State University and their Department of Athletics.
Among hundreds of students and athletes who filled the auditorium, the Lady Spirits were inspired by Thomas’ moving message–“Be Phenomenal or Be Forgotten.” Thomas spoke about being a homeless high school dropout to a self-made millionaire who obtained his Master’s degree in 2005 and is presently pursuing his PhD in Education Administration at Michigan State University.
He has gained national prominence by delivering high energy messages that encourage people to live up to their full potential. Known for his engagingly personal approach, his messages are both dynamic and inspiring. Salem College received recognition from Dr. Trae Cotton, WSSU Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, and was welcomed on stage to get up close and personal with Thomas once the program concluded. Eric’s representation of the merits of higher education, coupled with his knowledge of the pains of life, inspires people of all walks to break bad habits and reach for new levels of personal achievement. Salem College Head Coach
Anita Howard said, “Our young ladies really got a lot from this speech. Eric’s powerful message really makes you want to get out and do more, achieve greatness, and live your life to the fullest. He encouraged us to trust in the process of success which we will do as we strive to bring a championship to Salem!” The Spirits will not only implement his teachings into their academic and athletic endeavors, they will look to utilize them in their way of life!
