Basketball falls to Huntingdon on the road
The Salem College basketball team could not pull off the regular season sweep of Huntingdon today, when they fell on the road, 76-61. The conference result kept Salem in 3rd-place and Huntingdon in 1st in conference standings. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) led Salem with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Spirits fall to 11-10 overall and 4-3 in the Great South, while the Hawks moved to 12-8 and 5-1.
Basketball upset on the road at Covenant
The Salem College basketball team lost on the road to Covenant in overtime, 71-70.The Spirits went into the game tied for 1st in the GSAC halfway through conference play and Covenant came into the game in 5th. Salem was led by Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL), who finished with 28 points. The Spirits fall to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in the GSAC, while Covenant improves to 8-8 and 2-4.
Basketball storms past Wesleyan in 82-31 rout
The Salem College Spirits moved into a 1st-place tie with Huntingdon and Agnes Scott in the Great South with a rout over Wesleyan. The Spirits went up 18-0 and cruised to an 82-31 win. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) scored a season-high 34 points. Salem improves to 11-8 overall and 4-1 in the GSAC, while Wesleyan falls to 1-11 and 0-5.
Basketball tip-off time change to 4:00 tomorrow
The Salem College home basketball game against Wesleyan College has been changed from 2:00 to 4:00 tomorrow, January 26th. The game will be a match-up between two Great South conference foes.
Shabazz wins GSAC Player of the Week
Shabazz averaged 16 points per game and 12.3 rebounds per game as the Spirits went 1-2 last week. She notched a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds in a loss to Guilford and followed that up with 6 points and 13 rebounds in a loss at Agnes Scott. She capped her stellar week with another double-double, tallying 21 points and 13 rebounds in a road victory over Spelman.
Basketball picks up 10th win for first time since 2007
The Salem College basketball team cruised to a 89-35 non-conference win against Bennett. This is the 1st season since 2007 that the basketball team has reached 10 wins. Quntashea Lewis (Hartford, CT) had a double-double with 12 points on 6-8 from the field and 11 rebounds. The Spirits improve to 10-8 with the win.
Basketball wins on road at Spelman
The Salem College basketball team improved to 3-1 in the Great South with a 62-53 win at Spelman. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) continued her hot play with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Salem improves to 9-8 overall with the win, and the Jaguars fall to 2-14.
Basketball loses defensive battle of GSAC undefeateds
The Salem College basketball team lost a low-scoring game between the 2 remaining Great South undefeated teams today in Georgia. In a defensive battle, Agnes Scott pulled away from the Spirits in the 2nd half for a 41-33 win. Salem falls to 8-8 overall and 2-1 in the Great South, and Agnes Scott improves to 7-7 overall and 3-0 in the GSAC.
Basketball falls to Guilford at home
The Salem College basketball team lost a non-conference game to Guilford College, 70-57. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) had a monster game with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The Spirits fall to 8-7, while the Quakers improve to 13-3 overall.
