Softball's Garner wins Great South Player of the Week
The Great South Athletic Conference announced the softball week one Player and Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday morning and Salem freshman Kierston Garner earned Player of the Week status while Ellie Groenendyk of Covenant claimed Pitcher of the Week honors through exclusive voting by the league sports information directors.
Season Recap: Basketball
The Salem College basketball program capped off their most successful season since the 2006-2007 basketball team. The Spirits made it to the Great South Athletic Conference Championship Game for the first time, and they finished tied for 2nd in the regular season.
Softball splits pair of games in Raleigh
The Salem College softball team split two close non-conference games today at Meredith College. The Spirits defeated McDaniel (5-4) and they dropped a game a game to Hood (3-2). Allie Watkins (Locust, NC) led the Spirits with 4 hits and 4 runs batted in for the day. Salem improves their record to 3-5, while Hood stands at 1-1 and McDaniel drops to 0-2.
Basketball falls in GSAC Championship after record-breaking season
The Salem College basketball team completed one of the most successful seasons in Salem Athletic history with a 73-61 loss against Huntingdon College in the Great South Championship Game. The Spirits came into the game as the 2nd seed and the Hawks were the 1st seed and host. GSAC Player of the Year, Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL), led the Spirits with 15 points and 2 blocks. Salem ends the season with the most wins in basketball history at 17-11.
Basketball moves to GSAC Championship game with comeback win
The Salem College basketball team stormed back from a 14-point deficit in the 2nd half to beat Agnes Scott, 53-51 and advance to tomorrow's Great South Championship Finals. The Spirits were led by Bria Patterson (Winterhaven, FL) and her huge 10 points in the 2nd half. The team also reached a school record 17 wins for the basketball program.
Basketball cruises to quarterfinal win
The Salem College basketball team cruised past Wesleyan for the 3rd time this season, 78-16, to win their quarterfinal game and advance to the semifinals. The Spirits reached the semifinals of the Great South Tournament for the 1st time for the basketball program.
Softball loses two against NC Wesleyan
The Salem College softball team lost two games today against North Carolina Wesleyan. The 1st game was a pitching dual that the Spirits lost 2-1, and the 2nd game the Bishops stopped a Salem comeback to win 10-5. The Spirits fall to 2-4, and the Bishops improve to 2-0.
Salem to Host Great South Conference Softball and Tennis Tournaments
Winston-Salem, NC-Salem College will be hosting the 2013 Great South Athletic Conference Championships for softball and tennis the weekend of April 26th. This will be the 1st time the department has hosted a Great South Championship in any sport
Salem Basketball Wins GSAC Player and Coach of the Year Awards
The Great South Athletic Conference announced their women’s basketball postseason award winners on Thursday morning and junior guard Satavia Taylor of Salem College claimed conference Player of the Year honors to highlight the list of recipients. Taylor, a do-it-all playmaker with an array of skills, edged out Agnes Scott’s Genefine Sapateh for the league’s top prize. Alexis Lee of Pine Manor College claimed the prestigious Freshman of the Year distinction while Salem College head coach, Anita Howard, earned the Coach of the Year nod after guiding the Spirits through an outstanding season.
Basketball ready for Great South Tournament
The Salem College basketball team is entering this weekend's Great South Tournament with their highest seeding ever. The Spirits will be the 2nd seeded team and will play Wesleyan on Friday at noon in the 1st quarterfinal game of the tournament hosted by Huntingdon. The Spirits are 2-0 against the Pioneers this season, with an 81-32 home win and 79-24 road win.
