Volleyball falls in NCAAs to #4 Emory University
Playing in their first NCAA Tournament match, the Salem College volleyball team fell to the 4th ranked team in the country, Emory University, in the first round. The match was played at the regional host site of Christopher Newport University
Soccer and Volleyball make the grades in GSAC
The Great South Athletic Conference has announced the 2012 Fall All-Academic award winners and 59 student-athletes from around the league were honored for coupling their athletic prowess with academic pursuits.
Volleyball NCAA match set to be live-streamed
The first round NCAA Tournament match between Salem College and Emory University will be streamed live on the internet this Friday at 3:00 pm.
Soccer's Ferguson, Ketchum and others ranked nationally
In the final NCAA Division III statistical soccer rankings, the Salem College soccer team made the list in several areas. The Spirits, who finished the season with a 16-3-1 record and a Great South Regular Season Championship, had 6 different players in the rankings. Sawyer Ferguson (Billings, MT) finished the season with an impressive 10 game-winning goals, which was 2nd in the entire nation of over 8,000 athletes.
Volleyball Slated to Play Emory in NCAA First Round
The Salem College volleyball team is slated to play Emory University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the host site of Christopher Newport in Newport News, Virginia. Emory is currently ranked 6th in the country and 2nd in the South Atlantic Region with a 31-5 overall record.
Volleyball Storms to Great South Championship Title
The Salem College volleyball team used the momentum from a dramatic comeback in the semifinals to upset top-seeded Huntingdon and win their first-ever Great South Championship. The Spirits were down 0-2 to Agnes Scott in the semifinal before they stormed back to defeat them 3-2. They went on to roll by the #1 seed Hawks of Huntingdon 3-1 in the championship match. They will now wait for the NCAA Division III brackets to see who they play in the NCAA Tournament with their automatic bid.
Soccer defeats Spelman 4-0 to move to championship game
The Salem College soccer team stormed by Spelman 4-0 in the Great South Tournament semifinals. Taylor Norman (Springfield, VA) had a goal and 2 assists in the win. The Spirits won their 16th game, which is a new record for wins in a season and they are currently 16-3.
Volleyball Awarded Four GSAC All-Conference and One All-Freshmen
The Great South Athletic Conference announced their 2012 All-Conference award winners for volleyball for the 2012 season. The Salem Spirits received four All-Conference members and one All-Freshmen team member.
Eight Soccer Players and Coach Callahan Honored by GSAC
The Great South Athletic Conference announced their women’s soccer postseason award winners on Thursday morning and 8 Salem soccer student-athletes were earned honors. Salem’s Tarryn Bundy (West Deptford, NJ) claimed the prestigious Freshman of the Year distinction while her head coach, Jay Callahan, earned the Coach of the Year nod after guiding the Spirits to the league’s top seed heading into this weekend’s conference tournament. Clara Kienzle from Agnes Scott won the Player of the Year, but she was followed closely by Sawyer Ferguson (Billings, MT) and Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) who came in 2nd and 3rd in Player of the Year voting.
Volleyball and Soccer brackets set for GSAC Tournament
The Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) soccer and volleyball tournaments will be hosted by Agnes Scott College from Friday, November 2 through Sunday, November 4.
