- Basketball loses heartbreaker to Methodist
- After losing by double-digits in December at Methodist, the Salem College basketball team barely lost tonight at home to the Monarchs, 66-63. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) had her best night of the year with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Spirits fall to 7-5, while Methodist improves to 8-3.
- Taylor wins GSAC Player of the Week for 3rd time
- Taylor averaged 19.5 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, 3 steals per game and 1.5 blocks per game as Salem split contests with D-II Wingate (L, 77-65) and conference foe Huntingdon (W, 70-49) over the break. Taylor drilled 15-of-28 shots from the field in the process for a stellar 54% success rate. This is the third time on the young season that Taylor has earned the GSAC Player of the Week distinction
- This Week with Salem Basketball-Week 5
- The Spirits went 1-1 last week, and they picked up an important win in their first Great South game as they defeated Huntingdon, 70-49. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds against the Hawks. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) added 16 points and 4 steals. The Spirits fought hard in a loss to NCAA DII member Wingate University, 77-65. Taylor had 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Spirits are currently 7-4 and 1-0 in the Great South.
- Salem Soccer Wins National Team Ethics Award
- The Salem College soccer team was one of only 88 teams in both men's and women's soccer for all NCAA divisions to earn the Team Ethics Award presented by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Salem earned the silver level medal for only accumulating 3 yellow cards and 0 red cards during the 2012 season, which they finished 16-3-1.
- Basketball eases past Huntingdon in first GSAC game
- The Salem College basketball team cruised to a 70-49 win against Huntingdon in their first Great South game of the season. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Salem improves to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Hawks drop to 5-8 and 0-1.
- Basketball hangs tough with Wingate
- The Salem College basketball team hung tough with NCAA Division II Wingate University in their first game of 2013. The Spirits lost 77-65 in the non-conference game. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL), led Salem with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Salem falls to 6-4 on the season, while Wingate improves to 6-5.
- Meet a Salem Coach: Emily Long-Basketball
- “Emily is an integral part of this team this year as we strive to reach higher heights. With her previous DIII playing and coaching experience she has an intimate insight to what it means to be a student athlete on this level. And as a resident hall director she is readily accessible to our athletes and keeps me abreast of all the interesting things that Salem has in store for our students. This puzzle for success wouldn't be complete without her aboard!”
- MacKenzie Schmidt earns first Scholar All-Region Award in Salem History
- MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) became the 1st student-athlete in Salem College history to earn NCAA Scholar All-South Region Honors for her play on the soccer field this past fall and for her work in the classroom. She was placed on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-Region Honorable Mention Tea. Schmidt holds a 3.894 cumulative grade point average and she led the Great South Athletic Conference with 11 assists and 0.55 assists per game. She is a junior and majors in Not-For-Profit.
- Basketball moves to 6-3 with win against Averett
- The Salem College basketball team won their 2nd straight game as they pulled out a close contest in a 66-62 win against Averett. Bria Patterson (Winterhaven, FL) hit 2 clutch free-throws with 6 seconds left to preserve the win. Salem improves to 6-3 overall and Averett falls to 1-5.
- Satavia Taylor wins GSAC Player of the Week for second time
- The Great South Athletic Conference announced the winter sports week four Player of the Week on Wednesday morning and women’s basketball player Satavia Taylor of Salem College was selected as the winner through exclusive voting by the league sports information directors.
- Mike Hollman takes over Salem College tennis program
- Salem College Director of Athletics Melissa Barrett has announced that Mike Hollman will take over the Salem College tennis program. Hollman is very familiar with Salem College. He was the assistant tennis coach for 4 years, and he has worked with the soccer program for the past 5 years. Hollman will immediately take over the program, which went 4-11 overall last year and lost in the Great South quarterfinals.

- The Salem College basketball team ended a two-game losing streak with a convincing win at Meredith, 52-40. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) paved the way for the victory with 17 points and 7 rebounds. The Spirits improve to 5-3 this season, and Meredith fall to 1-4.
- Basketball loses back and forth battle with William Peace
- The Salem College basketball team lost at home for the 1st time this season in a back and forth game with William Peace. The Pacers won 70-61 in the intense game. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) continued her hot play with a game-high 18 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals, 3 assists, and an impressive 5 blocks. Taylor led the Spirits in all 5 statistics tonight. The Spirits fall to 4-3 with the loss, and William Peace improves to 3-5.
- Basketball volunteers with Main Street Academy
- This past week the Salem College basketball team spent the afternoon volunteering with local middle and high school students at Main Street Academy.
- Meet a Salem Coach:Ken Hunt-Softball
- "Coach Hunt is a great coach and asset to Salem College softball. The grace he shows when he gives to this program, let's you know how blessed we are to have a coach with the wealth of knowledge and experience in the world of softball. I am happy to have him as an Associate Head Coach at Salem College and more importantly, as a friend."
- Hubbard earns All-South Atlantic Region honors for second time
- For the second year in a row, Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) has earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Atlantic Region Honors. Last year, Hubbard became the 1st Salem athlete ever to earn all-region honors, and she repeated it again this year with a strong junior campaign.

- The Salem College basketball team lost for the first time in 5 games tonight as they lost 75-52 at Methodist University. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) led the Spirits with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Salem falls to 4-2 overall and Methodist improves to 6-2.
- 2013 Tennis Schedule released by athletic department
- The Salem College athletic department has released the 2013 tennis schedule. The team will begin action on February 16th when they host William Peace. Great South Athletic Conference play begins on February 23rd when the Spirits host Huntingdon for a double-header match. Here is the complete schedule:
- Softball releases 2013 schedule
- Head Coach Scott Long has released the 2013 Salem College Softball Schedule The Spirits will battle Agnes Scott, Covenant, Huntingdon, Spelman, and Wesleyan for the Great South Athletic Conference Crown. The Spirits kick-off action on February 12th when they travel to William Peace in Raleigh. Click below for the complete schedule:
- Basketball defeats SVU for fourth straight win
- The Salem College basketball team won at home against Southern Virginia, 59-51, for their 4th straight win of the season. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) had a game-high 19 points for the Spirits. Salem improves to 4-1 overall, and Southern Virginia drops to 2-2.
